Brenda Scoggins Fauls
Brenda Scoggins Fauls, 49, of Macomb, formerly of Tallahassee, Fla., died Monday, July 27, 2009.
She is survived by her partner, Tom Hunter, Tallahassee, Fla; her parents, John and Anne Scoggins, Brookline, N.H.; her sisters, Cheryl Rowe, Laurel, Md., and Donna Wargo, Wellesley, Mass.; her brother, John Eric Scoggins, Dover, N.H.; several nephews and nieces; and many friends and colleagues.
She was a Professor of Choral Music Education and Conducting at Western Illinois University. She received a Ph.D. in Choral Music Education at Florida State University, specializing in vocal science. She earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. While at FSU, She was an associate Conductor of the Tallahassee Community Chorus. She served as music director at First United Methodist Church in Monticello, Fla.
Her combined philosophies of music for life and music for all were evident in her teaching and performing. She consistently maintained participation in community music organizations since high school, and endeavored to make music an active part of life for all those whose lives touched hers. Students at Martin Middle School, Tarboro, N.C. and East Wake High School in Raleigh-Wake County, N.C. benefited from her supportive and nurturing teaching environment. Additionally, while in North Carolina, she served music education through extensive professional leadership.
Memorial services were held Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Faith Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Fla.
