Alletia M. Hale


Alletia M. Hale, 88, of Carthage, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, Carthage.
She was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Powelltown, to Fred and Lula (Gillenwater) Belknap. She married Glen Hale in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Edna Hale in 1989; and 11 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by four children, Harvey Hale, Fort Madison, Iowa, Glenda (John) Dochterman, Keokuk, Iowa, Wanda McKay, Fort Madison, Iowa, and Karen Hale, Carthage; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Dorothy Bundy, Rock Island, Evelyn Brown, Moline, Ermie Inman, Texas, Betty Costella, Texas, and Frank Belknap, Carthage.
She worked at Carthage College for eight years, Prairie Winds Motel for 12 years, Swift for five years, and Memorial Hospital in Carthage for 12 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage and the Carthage Senior Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Carthage, with Pastor Don Winters officiating. Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.
A memorial fund has been established.
Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of arrangements.
