Grant “Pete” L. Williams
AVON-Grant “Pete’’ Lee Williams, 63, died at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, on County Highway 15, two miles north of U.S. 34.
He was born March 15, 1946, in Keytesville, Mo., the son of Alfred “Mickey’’ and Anne E. (Aust) Williams.
He is survived by his mother Anne Williams of Prairie City; one daughter, Tera (Nick) Oliver of Normal; one son, Jason (Heather) Williams of Bloomington; five grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara (Donald) Kennett, Fisherville, Ky., and Cindy (Butch) Wise, Roseville; seven aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Charles “Dub” Williams.
Pete was reared in Prairie City. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he was a paratrooper during the Vietnam War.
He worked for the Corps of Engineers as an assistant lock master and diver.
He enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed car and motorcycle racing, and his trips cross country on his Harley.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial services were held Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Corman Memorial Home in Avon.
