OQUAWKA-Ronald W. Baker, 66, Oquawka, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at his residence in Bald Bluff Township.
Ron was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Greenbush Township in Warren County, the son of Donald Wayne Baker and Julia Irene VanVelsor.
He is survived by his brother, Kendall (Shirley) Furniss, Media; an aunt, Edna VanVelsor, St. Augustine; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his foster father figure, Gerald Preble; and two brothers, Donnie Baker and Robert Furniss.
He was reared in Abingdon, where he attended area schools.
For many years Ronald was employed at Maytag in Galesburg, from which he retired.
He most enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, in Avon Cemetery.
Cremation was accorded.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Turnbull Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
