Charles Gary Peck


HAWTHORNE, Fla.-Charles Gary Peck, Hawthorne, Fla., died Aug. 18, 2009.
He was born in Hinsdale, Ill., Feb. 11, 1944, the son of Harry Wilbur and Arla H. Peck. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Ekstrom, in 1964. She survives.
He is also survived by his mother, Arla Bragg; daughters, Julie A. (Dr. Richard) Adams, Bushnell, Fla., and Pamela (Kenneth E.) Brown, Trussville, Ala.; and grandchildren, Allison, Richard, Taylor, Samuel and Olivia,
He was preceded in death by his father.
He graduated from Abingdon High School and attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and Western Illinois, Macomb. He earned an Electronic Technician degree from a school in Rock Island, Ill.
After his marriage, he and his wife moved to Florida in 1966 where he worked for Martin-Marietta and Orange Cablevision. They moved to Gainesville in 1974 where he worked for Vital Industries and later for Chyron, where he set up and maintained broadcast switching equipment at several Olympic Games all over the world. He last worked at the University of Florida in the Telecommunication Department.
He was an active community supporter and president of Station 20 West Putnam Volunteer Fire Department. He regularly attended Woodlawn Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson, Fla.
Donations may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 818 County Road 20A, Johnson, FL .
Arrangements were in charge of Williams-Thomas Hawthorne Funeral Home.
