Mildred Ivonne Bradley
Mildred Ivonne Bradley, 85, of Macomb, died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Wesley Village Healthcare Center, Macomb.
She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Macomb, to Ivan E. and Mildred N. (Herndon) Burton. She married Raymond L. Bradley on Feb. 21, 1942. He preceded her in death July 2, 2003.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Helen.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond Lynn (Luci) Bradley of Belleville, and Larry Edwin (Dianne) Bradley of Fort Worth, Texas; one granddaughter, Cathlene Rene (Sergio) Alvarez, and great-granddaughter, Samantha Elizabeth Alvarez, all of Salinas, Calif.
After graduating from Macomb High School in 1941, she attended and graduated from Business College in Davenport, Iowa. She and her husband made their home in Bloomington until two years later when they returned to Macomb. She worked briefly at Globe American and at Hertenstein's Financial before taking a position with Pacific Finance Loan Company, where she worked until her retirement in 1981.
She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Macomb. She led a very active and service-oriented life. She was a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's Club where she served a term as the Illinois State President. She was a charter member of Altrusa of Macomb. She worked tirelessly for the visually impaired. She served in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years; she was a lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She received many awards and special recognitions for her richly rewarding life of service to her community that she loved dearly.
Her family wishes to express a very special thank-you to Wesley Village, McDonough District Hospital/ Hospice, and to her wonderful doctors, nurses and other personnel for their kindness and help through some difficult times.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Macomb, with the Rev. Steve Workman officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Memorials may be made to either the First Christian Church of Macomb, Wesley Village or the charity of the donor's choice.
