Raymond E. Quinn Sr.


KNOXVILLE-Raymond Eugene Quinn Sr., 74, Knoxville, died at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born April 1, 1935, in Abingdon, the son of Irvin and Opal (Sissel) Quinn. He married Cecylia Homes Dec. 23, 1955, in Hernando, Miss. He later married Betty Campbell July 14, 1988, in Cullman, Ala. She survives of Knoxville.
Also surviving are sons, Raymond E. (Dawn) Quinn, Galesburg, and David (Wyomia) Quinn, Hansville, Ala.; daughters, Debbie Nash, Wataga, and Vickie (Bob) Palmer of Lake Bracken, Galesburg; stepsons, Todd Anthony (Ellen) Basham, Bocaville, Calif., Mark Alan (Teresa) Basham, Galesburg, and Kevin Daryle Basham, Moline; six grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Clara Remaly and Donna Richardson, both of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one stepdaughter, Kimberly Sue Basham.
He was reared and educated in Abingdon and attended Galesburg High School.
He served in the United States Army from December 1954 to December 1957 during the Korean War as a mechanic.
He farmed around Alexis and in Alabama. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Randall Bus Service in Galesburg for 35 years. He also worked as a bus driver for R.W. Harmon Bus Service in Galesburg. He worked as a diesel mechanic and driver for City Wide Disposal Service in Galesburg. He later worked for Tractor Supply Company in Alabama from 1988 to 2005.
He was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Galesburg.
Cremation was accorded with inurnment to be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Soldier’s Angels.
Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville was in charge of arrangements.
