ABINGDON-Carl Landon, 72, Abingdon, died at 3:29 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born July 7, 1937, in Abingdon, the son of George E. and Eielene (Todd) Landon. He married Betty McMahon June 26, 1960. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Greg of Alexis, Doug of Galesburg, Rhonda of near LaMoille, Ill.; nine grandchildren; one brother, Clyde of Dahinda; four sisters, Clara Gilbert, Abingdon, Georgia Davis and Nellie Landon, both of Galesburg, and Grace Magnison in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ronald, Clarence, Fredrick, Lee, Rex, Terry, Everett, and Lyle; and his sisters, Gladys George and Norma Roberts.
Carl had lived in the Abingdon and surrounding areas all of his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1956.
He worked as a forklift operator at Admiral in Galesburg for 33 years retiring in the spring of 2001. His hobbies included deer hunting and fishing.
Cremation was accorded following the visitation in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. Private burial of ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.
