Kenneth L. Barton
GALESBURG-Kenneth Lee Barton, 87, Galesburg, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2009, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born June 3, 1922, in Galesburg, the son of Lee S. and Vada A. (Calkins) Barton. He married Jane Landon Sept. 29, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Crystal (Glenn) Moore, Galesburg; three sons, Kenny (Mary) Barton, Glendale, Wis., and Garry (Tammy) Barton and Russell Barton, both of Galesburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Forrest Barton and Richard Barton, both of Galesburg; and one sister, Annetta Bowton, Abingdon.
He worked at the Purington Brickyard in East Galesburg for 26 years. He then worked for the city of Galesburg in the Parks Department until he retired in 2002. During his time with the city, he also worked at Sudzy’s Laundromat and was a Little League umpire for 30 years.
He was a lifelong Galesburg resident. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and baseball. He was a Chicago Cubs fan.
He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was a former member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Services were held Monday, Sept. 14, in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.
Burial was in East Linwood Cemetery.
