George H. Pensinger, Sr.

George H. Pensinger, Sr., 97 of Marietta, died at 4:28 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.  

He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in McDonough County, to Oscar Ray and Ada (Westlake) Pensinger. He married Bertha L. Lutz on Nov. 12, 1934 in Good Hope. She preceded him in death Nov. 19, 2007 after 73 years of marriage. 

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Pensinger and Lucile Myers and one brother John Pensinger.  

He is survived by three sons: George, Jr. (Deedee) of Bushnell, Dr. Ray (Lynn) of Woodstock, and Locie of Marietta; four grandchildren, Gregory (JoEllen) of Bushnell, Susan Pensinger of Champaign, Matthew (Wendy) of Chicago, and Ashley (David) Sok of Paris, France; three great-grandchildren, Hallie (Geoff) Bleau of Brooklyn, N.Y., Chelsea (Teigh) Statler of Fayetteville, N.C. and Mia Sok of Paris, France and several nieces and nephews.

He worked for Neisner Brothers Department Stores in St. Louis and various other mid-western cities from 1933-38. When he returned to the area, he farmed for the remainder of his life.  He was always a dignified, quiet gentle man.

He served as a trustee and clerk of Mound Township and was an active member of the E.U.B./United Methodist Church of Point Pleasant.  He was a devoted Cubs fan all his life. His favorite leisure time activities were bowling, which he did until age 96, and playing pitch. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Point Pleasant U.M. Church, with  Pastors Trisha Chapman and John Douglas officiating. 

Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.  

Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, is in charge of the arrangement.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity or Point Pleasant United Methodist Church.
