Bessie L. Coulter, 69, Monmouth, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in Galesburg Terrace Nursing Center, Galesburg.

She was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Gladstone, the daughter of Charles and Lilly Shultz Starkey. She married John P. Coulter on Jan. 18, 1974, in Monmouth. He passed away March 17, 1982.

Surviving are four daughters, Freda DeFord, Lilly Ross, Barbara Farrington and Kim Garner, all of Monmouth; two brothers, Ed Brentise and Chuck Brentise Sr., both of Monmouth; four sisters, Ellen Myers, Hattie Garrett and Sara Strange, all of Monmouth, and Lucy Johnson, Abingdon; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

She was reared in the home of her aunt and uncle, Lilly and Harry Brentise.

She attended Monmouth public schools. She was a homemaker.

Funeral was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Marlow officiating.

Burial was in Monmouth Cemetery.
