Ernest L. Caldwell
Ernest L. Caldwell, 75, of 12144 N. 1050th Rd., Macomb, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at McDonough District Hospital.
He was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Littleton to Harold and Beulah Pickinpaugh Caldwell. He married Helen Lung Nov. 21, 1948, in Murrayville. She survives.
He also is survived by two brothers, Merle (Hope) Caldwell of Branson, Mo., and Bradford (Dorothy) Caldwell of Industry; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Alleyne) Bartlow of Littleton, Mrs. Paul (Carol Jean) Rowland of Macomb and Mrs. Sam (Joyce) Spring of North Henderson; two sons, Tony (Kim) Caldwell of Good Hope and Philip of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Angela (Jeff) Morrell of Good Hope and Gloria (Ed) VanKan of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren, Noah and Lacee Caldwell and Millie and Joe Morrell; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Caldwell lived his early life in Schuyler County and moved to the Macomb area in 1956.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater as an army engineer, and later served in the Korean War.
He worked as a fireman for the Macomb Fire Department for 28 years and attained the rank of captain before retiring in 1986.
He attended and was active in University Baptist Church in Macomb.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7, at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Richard Hurtgen officiating. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
Full military rites were conducted at the grave by the Macomb Veterans of Foreign.Wars. and the Macomb American Legion.
