Ruth E. Kats, age 92, of Avon, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 1999, at Avon Nursing Home.
Born May 1, 1907, in Pittsburgh to Claude C., and Ida May Fleck Halliwell, she married Joe B. Kats on September 25, 1928.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry (and Beverly) of Peoria and Ralph (and Charlotte) of Louisville, Kentucky; one daughter, Peggy (and James) Manuel of Avon; three sisters, Christine Murdock of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Theone Siebers of Hales Corners, Wisconsin, and Claudine Ragner of Dousman, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
One son, James, one granddaughter; and one sister preceded her in death.
She was secretary to the mayor of West Allis, Wisconsin. She later moved to Peoria, where she worked at Block and Kuhl and in the housewares department at Carson Pirie Scott, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Peoria.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Corman Memorial Home in Avon with Reverend Jon Prain officiating.
Cremation was accorded. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
