Russell L. Phillips, age 80, of Marietta, passed away at 9:04 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born May 24, 1919, in Vermont, Illinois, the son of Asa and Mollie Anno Phillips.

He married Opal M. McCormick on Nov. 24, 1951, in Quincy.

Surviving are one son, John N. Phillips, Prairie City; two daughters, Marjorie Warner, Abingdon, and Molly Van Pelt, Aurora; one sister, Lucille Kingery, Astoria; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.

He retired from Butler Manufacturing, Galesburg, after 29 years.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of T. J. Pickett Lodge 307, Bushnell.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell with the Rev. John Carlson officiating.

Burial was in the Vermont Cemetery.
