Bruce Shoemate
Bruce Shoemate, age 68, of 547 128th Street, Avon, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2000 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. He was born July 21,1931, in LaHarpe, the son of Arval and Susie Mae Elston Shoemate. He married Karol Smith on Sept. 5, 1954, in Greenbush. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Teresa Barlier, Franklin, Wendy Calero, El Paso, Texas, and Marla Jarmer, Garden City, Kansas; his mother, of Monmouth; one sister, Weona Mae Shoemate, Monmouth, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and by an infant son. He was reared in the LaHarpe and Terre Haute communities, and was graduated from Terre Haute High School. He served in the Marine Corps in Japan from 1952 to 1954. After his marriage he lived most of his life in Knox and Warren counties except for 14 months in Kansas. He was a production foreman for Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, and a maintenance foreman for 14 years for IBP before retiring. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Cherryville, Kansas. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, with Kurt Ayres officiating. Burial was in Greenbush Cemetery, where the Abingdon American Legion post accorded military rites. Memorials may be made to the OSF St. Mary Hospice, Galesburg. |
