Bruce Shoemate
Bruce Shoemate, age 68, of 547 128th Street, Avon, Illinois, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000 at St. Marys Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois. He was born July 21, 1931 in LaHarpe, Illinois the son of Arval and Susie Mae Elston Shoemate. He married Karol Smith on September 5, 1954 in Greenbush. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Susie Mae Shoemate of Monmouth; three daughters Teresa (David) Barber, of Franklin, Illinois; Wendy (Manuel) Calero of El Paso, Texas; Marla (Mark) Jarmer of Garden City, Kansas; one sister, Weona Mae Erickson, of Monmouth, Illinois and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one infant son. He was born and raised in the LaHarpe-TerreHaute community area, graduating from the TerreHaute high school. He served in the U. S. Marines in 1952 - 1954 in Japan. After his marriage he lived most of his life in the Knox, Warren County area and for some time in Kansas. He was a production foreman of Gates Production Company in Galesburg, a maintenance foreman at I.B.P.for years until his retirement. He was a member of Cherryville, Kansas Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a avid horseman. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2000 at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville with Kurt Ayres officiating. Burial was in the Greenbush Cemetery, Greenbush where military rites were conducted by Abingdon American Legion Post. Memorials may be made to the St. Marys Hospice. |
