Robert G. Lewis

Robert G. “Bob’’ Lewis, an Abingdon native, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 in Florida.

He was born April 20, 1922 the son of Ralph and Ione Lewis, life long residents of Abingdon.

He married his high school sweetheart, Kay (Tucker) Trachsel, of Abingdon and were together for 54 years before her passing in March of 1995.

He is survived by his three children, Tim Lewis, Jack Lewis and Jane Ray; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Florida and brother Bill Lewis, of Decatur, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, John Lewis and Stan Lewis.

He was a graduate of Abingdon High School and attended Knox College in Galesburg until he enlisted in the Army during World War II.

He had a 36 year career with Prudential Insurance Company retiring in 1985.

He and his family moved from Abingdon, to Kewanee and ultimately to Florida by 1959 as his career progressed with Prudential. He was a resident in Winter Park, Florida for over 38 years.

Bob had a true sense of loyalty and commitment to his roots as well as a great appreciation of Abingdon High School and Knox College and the role these institutions played in helping to shape his life.
