L. Ruth McGaughey, 85, of 12230 N. 950th Rd., Macomb, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at 3:40 a.m. at McDonough District Hospital.

She was born July 22, 1914, in Schuyler County to Brice and Gertrude Coakley Harry. She married Irwin McGaughey Feb. 4, 1934, in Macomb. He survives.

Also surviving are two sisters, Freda Barrett of Colchester and Buna Elam of Peoria; one daughter, Cindy (Jim) Moon of Macomb; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Harry; one sister, Reva-Belle Harry; two sons, Randall and Robert; and one daughter, Sandra Ellis.

Mrs. McGaughey was employed by Montgomery Ward’s Service Department until the store’s closing, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Macomb.

Services were Wednesday, March 1, at the First Christian Church and burial was in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Macomb or the charity of the donor’s choice.
